There is another I shot last year when we had a wonderful partial moon eclipse. As usual the sky was very cloudy and I had not much time for this shot between the clouds. It was strange – I don’t know where this reflection of a second moon came from – possibly an atmospheric thing – does anyone know? But I love the mood of this…

Petra, this is an attention-grabbing photo, if not award-winning. I think the blurry softness adds to the feeling of it; not sure it’s necessary for everything to be clear in this instance. There appear to be more moon-details on the reflection, which is interesting. I’m a moon-gazer from ‘way back, and have never seen this sort of reflection effect before. Phenomenal! I agree bout the atmospheric causes — it had to be a rare equation of just the “right” amount of moisture, pollution, and whatever other particles in the clouds that night, and you were probably only one of a handful of people in the whole world who experienced it. (good timing!)

Nikki – your comment made me really laugh out loud – so sweet of you but I don’t think this would be an award winning photo. It was just a funny coincidence in my opinion – I did nothing at all to create this special effect by intent. I only found it very strange because it was one of those things where technique creates its own version what the naked eye never sees. And indeed I did NOT see that reflection – only the camera did!!!
I think real award winning photos must be done on intent, fully mastering all the technique involved – don’t you think so? I cannot even explain what happened here…
